Item:123485923763MEDIEVAL ANTIPHONAL ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT LEAF -15th-16th C. Dutch Large vellum leaf in Latin text, likely Dutch in origin. Eight lines of music, four lines to the stave. Large initial S with floral decoration in red and blue with green, floral filigree to the outer margin. Also with four large red initials and one large black initial. Minor creases to top corner, some usual light soiling and a few tiny pinholes, has no effect and not uncommon. Leaf size is 14.75"x 21.25" Overall, an excellent example of a medieval leaf. The large initial "S" is the start of the Gregorian chant "Stauit ei Dominus testamentum pacis, et principem fecit eum: ut sit illi sacerdotii dignitas in aeternum" Translated: The Lord made him a covenant of peace, and made Him a prince: that the dignity of priesthood should be to Him forever. It is the Introit (entrance antiphon sung) Ecclesiasticus 45.
